Oil & Gas UK report says industry workers have better safety standards

A new Health and Safety report released by Oil & Gas UK, has revealed that contractors working in the gas and oil industries have never had better health and safety standards than they do right now.

The health and safety director of Oil & Gas UK, Robert Paterson, said, “The first ever Oil & Gas UK Health & Safety Report provides a snapshot of the UK oil and gas industry’s safety performance and the numerous ongoing projects being undertaken to continuously improve safety.

“The report serves to underline the fact that the UK has one of the most robust offshore health and safety regimes in the world.

“Despite being a major hazard industry, the oil and gas sector is outperforming many other UK sectors in terms of non-fatal injuries to workers – with only education and finance doing better.”

According to Oil & Gas UK, it will also be looking to offer freelancers working in the gas and oil trade, a yearly offshore safety guide, which will also have details of new initiatives and projects.

The news comes after the latest release of the Oil & Gas UK Economic Report, which revealed that contractors working in the oil and gas sectors play a vital role in underpinning the UK’s energy industry, as well as making a significant contribution to the nation’s economy overall.

The findings were focused on the huge scale of contribution the UK oil and gas industry has made to the wealth and well being of this country,

Oil & Gas UK’s chief executive Malcolm Webb, said, “The UK oil and gas industry’s economic contribution is to be celebrated and supported, especially in the current challenging global environment.

“It is providing extra jobs and placing orders with companies across the UK supply chain, as well as supporting exports and tax revenues.”
